Forty miles northwest of Chicago's Loop, in Illinois' Fox River Valley, is the Fox River Trolley Museum. Located in the Fox Valley community of South Elgin, IL, this delightful museum has been sharing the experience of early twentieth century electric railways since 1966. Today, at the Museum, a visitor will find on the four plus acre site a 29-piece collection of antique electric railway cars and the 1.8-mile Fox River Line demonstration railroad. The Museum operates every weekend between Mother's Day and early November to ride an electric trolley. A typical weekend will usually find two trolleys in operation. All trolley rides are round trips between Castlemuir and Blackhawk station. Museum trolleys depart from the east and west Castlemuir station track every 30 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. These trolleys carry Museum visitors over the Fox River Line demonstration railroad, which includes an original 1ΒΌ line segment of one of the oldest interurban electric railroads in Illinois-the Aurora Elgin and Fox River Electric Company.
